Convert a PDF to Word or Excel
Written by Autonome. Updated 5 November 2026.
How do I get the table in a PDF into Excel?
Export the PDF to Excel (.xlsx) or CSV, and the table comes across as rows and columns. For a letter or report you want to edit, export to Word (.docx) instead. PDFs typed in other software convert cleanly. Scans need their text read first.
Autonome PDF's Export to Word or Excel shows you a preview before you download, so you can see whether the columns lined up.

Retyping the same statement into a spreadsheet?
In Autonome, supplier bills don't need exporting at all: the invoice Flow reads the lines out of the PDF and prepares the draft bill in Xero or MYOB for you to approve.

Questions
Will the columns line up?
For tables in typed PDFs, usually yes. That is what the preview is for.
Can it convert a scanned PDF?
Run Make text searchable first, then export. Clear, straight scans work best.
